I cant get past the load screen
I have a compaq presario hp media center computer. My problem is that at first I got to the desktop and got stuck there. I was not able to open any folder or any thing not even the start menu. I have tried to start in safe mode but wouldn't start. Now when I turn on the computer it starts the computer but when it gets to the screen that says compaq with f1 for boot setup f10 for system recovery it won't go any further. I am not able to go into any of the f modes.

If there is anything that I can do that might not make me blank out the hard drive and lose everything please let me know.

Definitely do NOT do a system recovery! This will wipe your disk out.
It almost sounds like the computer cannot see the keyboard since you say that you cannot go into any of the f modes. Sorry I can't offer much encouragement.

    Hello.
This could be caused by the processor overheating , you need to check that your cooling fans
    Are working working.
A lot of computers have at least 3 fans

The cpu(processor) fan , the power supply fan and the case fan.

Air needs to move around inside and out from the case to keep parts inside cool.

One thing to check is that these fans are working and not clogged with dust.
For safety unplug your PC first and then blow any dust out with a can of compressed air (radioshack sell them $5) (you might need to take the cover off the computer to check on the inside)
Also make sure any unused expansion slots have their covers in place to maintain good airflow inside the case.
Check this out and let me know how you get on. (other possible causes are , bad power supply, bad ram or damaged mobo) .
    Regards
    C.
