Laptops are an acquired taste and vary user to user. Your link is a spec page showing general specifications for the model, not what YOU would be buying specifically.

Can you post the full pedigree of the actual laptop you'd be buying and the FULL offered price, then we can share an opinion.

    Price
    Model
    Speed
    HD size/type
    CD/DVD burner(?) included
    Memory size/type
    Wifi
    Bluetooth
    All included software (ALL)
    All included accessories/bags
    Extra battery?

Lastly, what will be YOUR use for the newly acquired laptop? Tell us that, then look at the price tag, the debate may already be over, you know?

CD/DVD burner(?) included: Super Multi format DVD burner with double layer (DL)

TOTAL price is £399? No taxes, surcharges, etc?

That's $735 US dollars, and I'm confident I could shave at least $100, if not more. The first very comparable laptop on the following list is only $459, which is only £249.

    15" & 15.4" Laptops on TigerDirect.com

And that's just the first website I checked. If I got serious, or timed it, I could get a laptop with similar specs for less than $400 US.

You're price isn't bad. It's a B- price. But you may/should be able to keep some of that money as you make this purchase. I'm just saying...

Your always so much help lol. Well the other type was an Acer aspire 5920.

PC World UK Computer Superstore - Buy cheap computers, laptops, desktop PCs, printers, LCD TVs, sat nav, digital cameras and more..

That is one I would really consider buying.

    Price: £399.99
    Model: Acer Aspire 5920
    Speed: 2Ghz
    HD size/type: 160GB SATA
CD/DVD burner(?) included: Super Multi format DVD burner with double layer (DL)
    Support.
    Memory size/type: 3GB DDR2
    Wifi: Yes

I know this is probably a lot to ask but I want these kind of specs or even better at about the same price. Do you know any websites or laptops that are around the same price and have the same specs?

As I said, you have to shop the sites that service your part of the world. If I was giving myself a $750 laptop budget, I wouldn't be trying to get similar laptops, I'd be trying to get the best I could for that price, better ones.

For me, my shopping specs would be:
    • 17"+ widescreen format
    • 2ghz+
    • 250+ gig HD
    • 3gig+ memory
    • XP Pro (not Vista, if possible, hard to find nowadays)
    • DVD burner (any is fine)
    • Wifi
    • MS Office (Student or SBE)

Lastly, I'd make my $$ stretch furthest by buying a refurbished unit. The benefit here is up to 20% savings, and whatever WAS wrong with the unit (if anything) has already been found out and repaired. Win-win.

Anyway, found a 17" widescreen unit on Dell.com, configured it for $750US as:
    # Studio 17 - Midnight Blue
    Intel® Pentium® Dual Core T2390 (1.86GHz/533Mhz FSB/1MB cache)
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Edition SP1
Glossy widescreen 17.0 inch display (1440x900)
256MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON HD 3650
    3GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2
    250GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
8X Slot Load CD / DVD Burner (Dual Layer DVD+/-R Drive)
    Dell 1397 Wireless-G Card
    Integrated 2.0M Pixel Webcam
56 Whr Lithium Ion Battery (6 cell)
Integrated Sound Blaster® Audigy™ Advanced HD Software Edition
1Yr Ltd Hardware Warranty and Mail In Service
Included 3 GB DataSafe Online Backup for 1Yr
    Free Recycling Kit

    Stretching those $$...

Hmm, just going to check one of my fave sites...

    Gateway MT6728 Refurbished Notebook PC - Intel Pentium Dual Core T2330 1.6GHz, 802.11a/b/g Wireless, 2GB DDR2, 160GB HDD, DL DVDRW, 15.4" WXGA, Windows Vista Home Premium - $459.99 (£249)

    Gateway MT6730 Refurbished Notebook PC - Intel Pentium Dual-Core T2330 1.6GHz, 802.11a/b/g Wireless, 2GB DDR2, 120GB HDD, DL DVDRW, 15.4" WXGA, Integrated Webcam, Windows Vista Home Premium - $469.99 (£255)

    Gateway M-6307 Refurbished Notebook PC - Intel Pentium Dual-Core T2330 1.60GHz, 802.11a/b/g Wireless, 2GB DDR2, DL DVDRW, 120GB HDD, 15.4" WXGA, Fingerprint Reader, Webcam, Windows Vista Home Premium - $479.99 (£260)

    Gateway M-6320 Refurbished Notebook PC - Intel Pentium Dual-Core T2370 1.73 GHz, 802.11g Wireless, 2GB DDR2, 250GB HDD, DL DVDRW, 15.4" WXGA, Integrated Webcam, Windows Vista Home Premium - $499.99 (£271)

Gateway P-6312 Refurbished Notebook PC - Intel Pentium Dual-Core T2370 1.73GHz, 802.11a/b/g WLAN, 1GB DDR2, 160GB HDD, DL DVDRW, 17" WXGA+, Windows Vista Home Premium - $499.99 (£271) (This is the unit I would probably buy at MY pricepoint)

Gateway M-6319 Refurbished Laptop Computer - Intel Pentium Dual Core T2370 1.73GHz, 802.11n Wireless, 2GB DDR2, 250GB HDD, DL DVDRW, 15.4" WXGA, Pacific Blue, Webcam, Windows Vista Home Premium - $509.97 (£277)

    Gateway P-6822 Refurbished Notebook PC - Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 1.5GHz, 802.11a/b/g WLAN, 1GB DDR2, 250GB HDD, DL DVDRW, 17" WXGA+, Integrated Webcam, Windows Vista Home Premium - $549.99 (£298) (awesome)

    CLOSER TO YOUR PRICE POINT

    Acer Aspire 7520-5185 Refurbished Notebook PC - AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor TK-55 1.8GHz, 802.11b/g Wireless, 3GB DDR2, 160GB HDD, DVDRW, 17" WXGA+, Webcam, Windows Vista Home Premium - $629.99 (£342)

    Gateway M-1626 Refurbished Laptop Computer - AMD Turion™ 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile TL-60 2.0GHz, 802.11g Wireless, 4GB DDR2, 250GB HDD, DL DVDRW, 15.4" WXGA, Webcam, Windows Vista Home Premium - $679.99 (£369)

    Gateway M-6844 Refurbished Notebook PC - Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 1.83 GHz, 802.11g Wireless, 4GB DDR2, 320GB HDD, DL DVDRW, 15.4" WXGA, Integrated Webcam, Windows Vista Home Premium - $699.99 (£380)

Now here's the thing, this site's refurbished notebooks changes daily. If I didn't find the exact specs/price I wanted, I'd check again tomorrow. Patience. Notice how at YOUR pricepoint, I"m getting a lot more memory and hard drive space...and 17" widescreen would be a requirement at that price, at least for me.

Thanks again for all your help. The only thing is I want 2Ghz + and an intel core 2 duo processor. Also I am in england so shipping might cost a lot more. I like your specs they would suit me, what I am looking for, especially a 17" screen. Just that website doesn't have many that suit me :(

No. If you can tell the diff between a 1.83 ghz and 2.0 ghz processor, you're a god.

I'd keep the extra money and go with that unit, but the one you posted above does look nice. <chuckle> In the end, it's your toy, eh?

Lol thanks. It's just this computer is 3.40Ghz that's why 1.83 seems so little? And lastly is it better to get one with an actual graphics card instead of Intel X3100 GMA or something like that? Thanks for your help agen.

The Dell is a good one. The speed is good, the video card is great, the memory and HD space is good. That's the same unit I configured on the Dell website myself, you just beefed it up more than I did.

All sounds good, if money is no object, buy that one. Next project...
