To my knowledge, no. But in mine, I can make it disappear by putting the cursor in the big, colored area at the top of the page and right-clicking for options.
But, maybe with the newer Internet Explorers, there are also some other options about which I am unfamiliar.
Hopefully, others will be along to address your question.

Put another toolbar on the same line, and drag it to the side and you can make address bar smaller

In IE if you unlock the toolbars (right-click on any toolbar and uncheck "Lock the toolbars") then you can resize and move the address bar to your heart's content.

I do see what you mean, NeedKarma. I did try the unlocking thing and appeared to have a couple more controls that I didn't know about using the left-click. One was the funky little cross or plus sign with the arrows on the ends of the cross-bars and also something new that I was able to do because there are also now dots in vertical lines on the left side of the address bar and other toolbars at the top, that I would appear to be able to do something with by using the left-click, but still haven't been able to do anything yet.
Thanks for the information, though! I did learn something new!
