    Adding 2nd Hard Drive
HP Pavilion - on connecting 2nd HD into PC and starting up - Refuses to boot up. The sequence gets as far as flashing the light on the DVD but goes no further (normally flashes floppy after DVD then continues the boot up).

Have set jumpers at CS as recommended - tried Master and Slave settings and back to CS - All to no avail so looks like I've run out of options.

Any ideas folks (and folkesses - of course)

Is this a sata drive or ide drive?ANY operating systems installed on this new HDD or is it blank?if your old HDD is Win XP and your attaching a blank IDE HDD its should be as simple as making 1 a slave 1 a master going into bios to see it got recognized...
If it didn't make sure you assign them so they are..

Then format the new hdd afterwards...

If you setup the new hdd(slave) on the same cable as old hdd(master) the bios should read that the old 1 is the PRIMARY MASTER the new 1 is the PRIMARY SLAVE

If bootup still doesn't occur switch the new hdd to the other IDE CABLE and assign that as either master or slave... it will now show up as SECONDARY MASTER or SLAVE

In the bios there should be a menu that says BOOTUP SEQUENCE... make sure the NEW HDD Doesn't get booted up(no need for it)

If everything worked out it should bootup the old hard drive and go through its normal startup... then in my computer you can right click on new hard drive and select format... if this is incorrect my apologies someone correct me... its been a LONG LONG time since I did a 2nd hard drive

Also - just make sure you haven't knocked anything else loose - RAM, graphisc card etc.

Double check the master/slave settings on the drives, are you looking at the jumpers the right way up? Sometimes the diagrams take some working out!

Always have the operating system drive as Primary Master disk.

Also try each disk connected on it's own as master and then as slave, this should tell you if the jumper settings are OK and the drive is working.

HHHmmmmm - I replaced the power unit a week or so ago in preparation for the extra power that was for the new HD, It was a very tight squeeze getting it in and I'm wondering if I caught something on the board. Will have to do a very close inspection.

    Many thanks for the suggestions.
