How do I check if I have a 3d card on my computer. I have windows xp professional. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Q: How to tell if you have a discrete video adapter card vs. integrated motherboard graphics:
A: You open up the computer and see where the monitor cable is connected. Or, it can be determined from outside of the computer knowing what to look for. The monitor port for integrated graphics is usually under or around a parallel port near where the keyboard and mouse cables connect. The port of a discrete card will be found in one of the expansion slots.

Q: How to tell if your video hardware is 3D capable or 2D only:
A: The majority of video hardware sold today has 3D capability. Unless you have certain Matrox brand cards or another application specific workstation class card for CAD or other specialized uses, your hardware will probably have at least some 3D capability. Selecting Start > Run and entering "dxdiag" will run the DirectX diagnostic utility. This utility provides information about your video hardware and includes some tests that can be run for Direct3D. Once the hardware has been identified, visit the manufacturer's web site to determine the 3D capability. Additionally, the Control Panel Display applet often has 3D settings that can be adjusted under the Settings tab > Advanced.
