    Smoking is killing me
    Can't stop smoking. I'm really consurned about my health. Any help?

    Well, if you're really serious about quiting then there are different kinds of methods you can use, rather than smoking the cigarette, but getting the same level of nicotine.

    You can use the patches, or you could chew the gum, and it's much easier I would think, and so I've heard, to ween yourself slowly off those, instead of trying to just stop smoking.

    You can't stop unless you truly are serious about it, or if you really do care about your health. If you don't stop now, you will pay the price in the long run. I do hope that you stop though, I have relatives that smoke and I see what it does to them. Don't let it happen to you. You may hurt others around you as well as yourself.

    If you can't stop smoking and are thinking about your health, I suggest you buy a treadmill and train on it that's what I do I think that it equals you being average since running exercises your lungs and cam make you to live longer for more puffs I think so. But I think the best is to just have will power and quit smoking

    I just quit cold turkey. I honestly just LOVED smoking, I had no problem with it at all and I wasn't concerned about it health-wise (it hadn't affected me much in that regard... ). What I did was I started thinking negatively about smoking... like how bad it looked to be standing outside a building while everyone else was inside having fun and I was out there smoking... and how it's a pain to have to go outside in the cold to go smoke... how bad it smells, how I HATE to have my kids see me smoking, and God forbid that my children would take it up due to seeing mom smoke... how I'd hate to end up dying early and missing out on my children's lives and so on. The smell was what really got me too. When you smoke you just don't notice how bad it smells, but try this-take a nice loooong shower, use some really good smelling shampoo and soaps, and DON'T smoke for a few hours. You will notice how good you smell! And how BAD the smoke reeks. If you can start slow and just take smaller steps, like take it by the minute, the hour, then graduate to a whole day without smoking, it gets easier. And don't be too hard on yourself if you slip up, don't just give up if you cave in once or twice.

    Another thing I did was I used a thing I DL'd online called Quitkeeper-it's free to DL. It runs a tally of how much money you have saved (you put in your specific info such as your # of cigarettes smoked per day and how much they cost). It also tells you how much life you have gained back (or saved, whatever.. ) and how long you have been quit broke down into days, hours, minutes, seconds. It's a nice little thing that is pretty encouraging to use! Then you can take that money you have saved and treat yourself to something nice once in a while as a reward. Or start a savings account even, just drop the cigarette money into the account every payday. Seeing something tangible like the saved money can be super encouraging not to mention totally unbelievable as to how much the smoking is costing you financially, it's really sobering when you see it for yourself. Sometimes the health benefits you gain are just not really noticeable much (and it can take a long while too! ) so for some people seeing the money is more of a help.

    It can help too to do something else to keep your hands busy like a crossword or knitting or something like that. It really helps to pass the time because a minute without smoking can feel like an eternity when you really want to smoke! Exercise is good too! Even just taking a walk.

    My doc had wrote me a script for Chantix but I just didn't want to take it due to some really terrible things I had heard about it, and it was super expensive too so that kind of deterred me from it as well. My neighbor told me that she took it to quit and ever since she stopped taking it, she has had some strange neurologic issues and panic attacks, I don't know if it's related or not, but that's what she thought as she hadn't had any such problems before taking Chantix. Not to mention the whole suicide thing! That's just bizarre! For me anyway, I have the most trouble with the whole habit of it, like smoking while in the car, after eating and while on the phone for instance. That was the hardest stuff to get over. But it really does get easier every day. Just take it moment by moment at first, be patient with yourself and take small steps if you have to. You don't necessarily have to drop it all at once, for some people it's a minute by minute deal. And if you can tell yourself to wait when you want a cigarette, just wait for 5 minutes, 10 minutes and so on, you can build up to hours and then days. After I quit totally for about a week straight, I smoked again a few times but I didn't get down on myself about it and I didn't see it as a major backslide, if you do slip up it's not necessarily like you have to go back to somking full-time again! Not being so hard on myself was part of my personal success I think.

    OK so I don't know if anybody already mentioned this because I didn't bother reading the other responses but have you ever heard of an electronic cigarette? If not, basically it looks like a cigarette but you inhale pure nicotine basically and you exhale water vapor and that's it. You don't get any of the tar or any of that as opposed to cigarettes. There's no smell or anything. Nicotine and water vapor. The cigarettes themselves are I want to say around 80 dollars and you have to buy refills. I am a smoker as well but just haven't tried very hard to quit but when I do this is going to be the way I do it
