Hi' I have a twenty year old daughter who is home from college. She is very lazy , she doesn't clean up and lays around the house all day while I'm at work. So today when I came home I told her I was fed up and to give me my house key, and car keys. I asked her was it too much to ask for her to clean the house. She didn't respond. Long story short I said something's she made a smart comment and left out the house latter she returned to pack her bags and move in with her girl friend who lives at home with her mom. I told her yeah go over there an lay around don't clean up and eat her out a house and a home and disrespect her and see how long she puts up with you. She left and said thanks for everything I'm leaving. I personally feel when your children disrespect you and say whatever they want to there parents it's time for them to move out. Am I wrong!!

No I don't think your wrong. My mother would have did the same thing. Your daughter doesn't see it now but she had it good. If she thinks she is going do the same thing at her friend house then she is sadly mistaken.

An adult should act like an adult and it isn't good to spoil your kids. Sometimes you have to show and give some tough love.

P.S. Did you ever talk to your daughter about helping out around the house and finding a job?

My mom had the same expectations of me when I was home for summer breaks during college. After all, I was living there so I was expected to contribute to the household in some way.

Like you said, the friend's parents will get tired of her lazy ways much sooner because it's not even their own child. It's highly doubtful they'd let her mooch for the rest of the summer.

She will be back. And when she gets back, lay down some ground rules and tell her that's the way it is. Like it or leave.

No you're not wrong. Disrespecting your parents at any age is unacceptable. As far as her thinking you are her maid and servant/provider, she'll learn fast in the "real world" that she's going to have to pull her weight or be hungry and homeless. I know it's got to be hard on you in the meanwhile, so hang in there . I think she's going to have a rude awakening and come begging back with a broom and a smile. GOD bless you.
