An attorney would be your best route. It won't be that expensive because both parties are in agreement. It is basically just drawing up the paperwork, signing it, and filing it. It is just easier if you have an attorney to take the headache out of it and to make sure all the right papers are filed.

You could do it yourself, but you will need to go down to the courthouse in your area and see what papers you need to fill out and file. And since the mother is having someone adopt the child, she will need an attorney as well.

Thanks, for you help. I just want to get this over with. Do you know anything about the childsupport. I called the childsupport office. They told me that both parties just neem to come in to stop the childsupport. The child's mother told me that it will cost 1500.00 for this process. Do you know about how much this cost (just signing over the rights)

Her new husband has to file a motion to adopt in Family Court. You are then presented with the paper to sign. Upon the judge's approval, the adoption becomes final.

If you are trying to stop child support before the adoption is final, then yes... you both would need to go down and agree to stop it. Otherwise, once the adoption is final the mother can show the paperwork to child support and have child support stopped.

I cannot imagine this process costing $1500... all you have to do is mutually fill out paper work at child support and sign... that's it, in my paperwork for child support they provide the forms needed to do this, and no where does it say it costs anything... unless you are meaning the $1500 for the entire process (adoption and all)... then she may be right... if YOU are covering all the costs... but she is wanting this done as well... she should at least split the cost.
