My son is going to be 3 in April I would love to get him fully potty trained by may... I started once before a couple months ago, but he was not into it... now I decided to make it a new start for 2009 and he is doing pretty good.. Do pull ups really work? They are expensive.. I would love all the suggestions I can get.. thanx

The advice I can give is to... hang out at home in big boy pants and give him A lot to drink... and ask him every 30 minutes if he wants to potty. Two of mine are boys and it was not too bad, but you will have to keep some towels handy... lol
I also made it easier for them to reach the potty. A little bench to step up on for standing and a seat so he won't fall in. Another fun thing was peeing outside. Once he gets the hang of the going part then you can set the limits on things like peeing outside.

I too agree with going outside... My son thought that it was sooooo cool and even if we were inside and he had to go, I allowed him to go outside, which really helped the transition... I used Pull-ups when we were in public places, restaurants, grocery store, etc... Leaps and Bounds: the smartest educational toys, kids' products, & parent resources! has a fully functioning urinal that you can set up in his room, the bathroom or somewhere in your house, which is a really cool thing for boys to go potty the same way their dads go:)... Good Luck.. My daughter turned 2 years old in December and I plan on starting when the weather warms up and I plan on stripping her to a pair of panties... She HATES poopy diapers and even when she pee-pee in the bathub, she fusses about it being gross running down her legs, so I THINK that she MIGHT be easy:confused:... My only concern is getting her to understand that she is different that her older brother who is 5 years old and she IDIOLIZES, because she has walked up to the toilet on several occasions and tried to pull her pants down and stand to pee;)...

I recommend cheerios and have him aim at them... this makes potty training fun (I call it "sinking the battle ship" with the cheerios as the battle ship)

Pull up are too much like diapers... I found they learn faster when you let them pick out their first big boy underwear

Then keep him in a easy to clean place. Put plastic on the carpet floors (or just keep him on tile/linoleum during the day)

You may also want to invest in a plastic liner for the bed (they will have accidents at first)

Okay, I was so discouraged as my daughter trained at 2 over night. No joke. As my son approached three, I was going to throw out the diapers and pull ups at three and told him for about six months. Still no sign he was going to achieve this until one week before he turned three and viola... he trained really quickly. A few accidents, but they were spread out over three months. Seriously, there were not any missess unless I was not paying attention.

Now the nighttime is much different. He will be five this month and I have told him... no more night time pull up. He still is not dry when he wakes up. But soon, he will have to wake up, change his clothes, pull out the sleeping bag, and put himself back to bed. He is ready for it. He already cleans himself up in the moring from the wet pullup.

Yea thanks... my 5 year old was fully potty trained by 3 1/2 so lets see... I saw pics of that standing urinal that is too cute

Thanks to all suggestions my 2 year old has been fully potty trained for the past 1 month and is doing great. He does not use diapers or pull-ups anymore not even while he's sleeping. I guess its really about patience and giving them there own space and letting them figure out that wow its easy after all and underwears are so much comfortable than diapers.
