Having trouble with hyper 10 month old!
Can anyone help me please. I am currently looking after my ten month old grandson and have been since she was born when her mother is at work. I have had her several time at nights as well. She used to go to sleep quite easily but has now developed this habit that after having her supper (Hero special night time food ) and then her bath with Lavender and lavender lotion rub down afterwards of not wanting to go to sleep. Instead she starts cruising rapidly around her cot while at the same time shouting and talking loudly (baby talk) shaking her head from side to side quite violently and then holding her breath and then laughing at her own antics. Is this behaviour normal for a ten month old or do my daughter and I have something to worry about. During the day she is fine - she has two - one hour naps a day - plays on the floor etc. It is only at night that she becomes a little nightmare as even though I put her in her cot at 8 she is stll active at 11 or 12. In the end I have to rock her to sleep in her pram!! And then she wakes up constantly in the night although she does go straight back to sleep when told - go sleep,

There are a few things you could try.

First, have your daughter take the baby to the family Doctor, and checked to make sure there isn't a problem with an ear infection.

Try skipping the second nap, and when she would normally be sleeping at that time, engage her in activities to keep her busy, but not wear her out.

If she is not falling asleep until near midnight, she's just not tired, and taking out the nap might help.

I don't know what 'Hero' is, I presume some sort of pablum cereal? Maybe increase the amount, and feed her a little later than normal, even by a half and hour.

Add, after the bath time, a story, and when she appears very tired, then put her in her crib so she associates sleep time with that, instead of the developing routine of the pram.

One of mine had a similar thing going on, and it turned out that she was hungry, and I was in the habit of giving her another bottle when she got up in the night. Not a good habit, and a very difficult one to break.

Maybe the key is not waiting for her to get tired enough to sleep, but change her routine (awake times particularly), so that when 8 roles around, she will be obviously tired, and ready to sleep.

Thank you Jake will try some of that. Thought about the ear infection myself and had her checked as she has just gotten over the flue but she is fine. Hero is a baby food in the jar but which is especially for night time /supper feed. I usually give her chicken with veg or the fish with rice version and then she has fresh fruit. I also give her a bottle. I thought maybe I was overfeeding her!! My daughter is in NY for two weeks but she says she has been having the same problems

When my kids were babies and we stayed overnight anywhere but at home, they would go nuts. They wouldn't sleep as well and were very hard to put to sleep and I think it was because they were in an environment they were not used to. If it also happens at your daughter's house, it could now be that the baby is confused and not settled into one place she can feel is her bed.

If this is the case, maybe the baby would have to sleep in the same kind of playpen (or crib) with the same blankets in both houses, so that there is a familiarity. If that still does not work, it may be necessary for you to stay at your daughter's house, if possible, on those overnights to get the baby used to the same thing.

Some kids are just wired a certain way and it is really difficult. Hopefully, it will pass soon and not become an issue for long.

Thanks Rosemcs for you input. I have the same cot - as well as duvets etc as at my daughters house. Funnily enough after complaining her last night she went to sleep just like a baby lol. She woke a couple of times but on comforting her and reassurance she went straight back. Hopefully it will continue.
