My 3-year old son does not speak clearly and cannot keep a conversation. What can I do to help him improve?

Boys usually take longer, but to ease your concern take him too a speech therapist, usually of it comes together more around the 4th birthday, is there anything else he is doing slower than others> my doctor also told me too read too him a lot and make sure they here like 13,000 or more words a day... it will come a long and good luck, another thing boys usually focus more on learning mother skills then they learn the speech... I hope something helped

I know a lot of three year old boys with the same problem. You really should get him evaluated to see if a speech therapist would be the answer for him. Have you had his hearing tested?
You really need to deal with this now because once he gets into school they can try and get you for neglect if they think the problem is serious enough.

Thanks N0help4u,
I had his hearing checked. He hears quite fine.. He tries to say short sentences but they just do not come out clearly. Sometimes he repeats you question... other times he repeats it then gives a simple answer. He can't keep a conversation on the phone,
He also won't answer when he is called unless someone reminds him to answer.
I am really concerned

My son too had similar symptoms, now he is 5 yrs old and have better speech. Just do not worry too much. Boys take longer time to learn. Besides, you can take him for sound check. If it is normal, things should work with time. Have patience :)

Your child needs to be evaluated in many areas not just speech, not only does he have a deficit in speech it seems he is having an issue with comprehension.
Don't push aside you worries with a simple answer that he is a boy and they take longer. Each child is an individual and goes at their own pace. Some children just need a little extra help. Contact your pediatrician for a referral for him to be evaluated.
