    Little 'girly' irritations
Sorry I seem to be so full of questions lately everyone. Like I said before, when it rains it pours

So I knew this was coming. Ayla started kindergarten about a month and some days ago. She is really good at going to the bathroom alone. Yet I was always there to 'follow up' with the finishing if you get my drift lol.

Well, at the school, the teachers aren't allowed to help her wipe. She must do it on her own.
And of course, she now has irritation. I'm going to wait a day or so see if it clears up on its own. If not ill take her to get checked for a UTI.

My question is, it is VERY ITCHY for her right now. She can't sleep.

Do you think I can put some benadryl on the outside of her to help with the discomfort? Or is benadryl too strong for that area?

I have some summers eve personal wipes, but being that those wipes were not made or designed with little girls in mind, I'm reluctant to use them on her.

    Thanks for the advice all.

    Isn't Benadryl taken by mouth?

Let her sit for 20 minutes in warm bathwater into which you've mixed 4 tablespoons of baking soda. Dry the area thoroughly. Dust it with cornstarch, or apply 1% hydrocortisone cream (a nonprescription item) to the genital area after the soaks.

    Allexperts.com adds this --
    • Don't use bubble bath before puberty because it is very irritating. Don't put any other soaps or shampoo into the bath water. Don't let a bar of soap float around in the bathtub. Wash the genital area with plain water, not soap. If necessary, use baby oil to remove secretions from between the labia that don't come off with water. If you are going to shampoo your child's hair, do this at the end of the bath.
    • Keep the bath time less than 15 minutes. Have your child urinate immediately after baths.
    • Wear cotton underpants. Underpants made of synthetic fibers (polyester or nylon) don't allow the skin to "breathe." Discourage wearing underpants during the night so the genital area has a chance to "air out."
    • Teach your daughter to wipe herself correctly from front to back, especially after a bowel movement.
    • Encourage her to drink enough fluids each day to keep the urine light-colored. Concentrated urine can be an irritant.

I used to have a similar problem with itching down there when I was little.

I don't remember much about it other than my mum used to get me to put Calamine lotion on it...
It was messy... and dried a chalky pink color but it stopped the itching!

Good luck with the 'wiping training' she will get the hang of it eventually :)

    Thank you guys.
Ill do the bath tomrorow. Little butthead fell asleep shortly after I asked the question lol. She always does that makes a liar out of me. We would go to the emergency room for severe abdominal pain, and the we get there, and she feels fine. ARG. Lol

Benadril cream hon :P not the medicine. The kind you put on bugbites or rashes and such.

We are working on the wiping. Her little arms aren't long enough for front to back. So I have taught her to wipe her bottom first. Get that all cleaned. And then wipe her 'girl' carefully without going back towards her bum. (this is what I do because of my weight and short arms)

Would the wet toilet wipes help? To carry in her backpack for bathroom breaks at school? Like the kandoo wipes? Or even a travel size of baby wipes?
