What solution melts an icecube the fastest?
What solution or mixture of salt, sugar and cooking oil in boiling water will melt an ice cube in the least amount of time on a kitchen range?

If it is boiling water I would suggest saturating the water with some salt. Salt raises the boiling point of water and therefore the boiling water (with salt in it) would be hotter than the boiling water with nothing in it.

    Hope this helped!! Roll Tide!

Salt, being ionic, will raise the boiling point the most. Sugar, being nonionic, will raise it less. Cooking oil will not dissolve in water and, therefore, will not raise the boiling point.

Since heat transfer is a function of temperature, the higher the boiling point, the more heat will be transferred to the ice. Therefore, the order is salt > sugar > oil

It has happened lots of time before, and I don't think that will stop so soon. Thread being revived from the depths of the site, never the asker to come back.

Even here, there are only two possibilities:
    1. The asker now knows the answer, has been working through it in class.
    2. The asker is no more interested in the question.
