    CD drive won't work
    My CD drive will only read some discs, and won't read other (that aren't scratched) why?? :mad:

    Could be several reasons including that the drive could be going bad, but the first things I would try is to run a lens cleaning disk (you can get them at most stores that also sell disks) and check the connections inside the machine to insure they're good (power down first). What I usually do is to open the tray and blow some canned air into one side so the dust comes out the other and then run the disk lens cleaner. It's also possible that the disks your trying to use are not supported by the firmware of the drive. Most optical drive firmware updates are developed to add new types of media to the drive. Firmware updates are tricky though, and you have to be a little brave to run them making sure there is no disk in the drive and you get the proper one for your model number. You can also try the old trick of going into Device Manager and finding the optical drive (DVD/CD-ROM Drives) and uninstalling the drive. Then restart the PC and windows will reinstall the drivers which eliminates the issue of drivers that have become corrupted.
