    Smelly Cat
My cat smells like urine. This has been going on for three weeks, I have taken her to the vet and they said that there is nothing wrong with her. I haven't changed her brand of litter or her food or anything. I've given her at least five baths and made sure her litter is clean and easily accessible.

How old is your cat and is she spayed? Could it be that she is leaking urine and the odor is in the fur even though she may have cleaned up and it seems dry. Did the vet do a urinalysis to check for infection?Check her bed or where she sleeps and see if these places are damp or smelly also.

She's three and a half and I haven't had her spayed, although we are looking into it.The vet did a urinalysis and they didn't find anything. What would be the cause of her leaking urine, and how should I go about fixing it?

Please get her spayed. That may solve the problem, or show up what is really going on with her.

Does she smell like urine all over, or is the odor confined to her nether region?

I am definitely going to get her spayed, I never had the money for it but tomorrow I am going to call around to find the best price. Only her "nether regions" smell, the rest of her smells fine.

First check at the local animal shelter to find out which vet or clinic they use--usually lower cost. The shelter may even hand out "certificates" for spaying/neutering in order to free the world of/prevent more homeless cats and kittens.

It is not as common for females to spray as for males but it does happen, if she is marking you should look for signs along the walls and other vertical surfaces. In the act (if you were to catch her) she would either back up to or partially squat, tail straight up and tip of tail trembling. IF she is spraying she could possibly get some of urine in the fur on her back side and cause the smell. Your best chance for stopping this is spaying her. Are you in the U.S. Is so try this link, http://www.snapus.org/site/PageServer maybe they will have a chapter near you, prices are very reasonable and some chapters give vaccines.
As Wondergirl said check around, shelter, humane society, call vet clinics and see what programs are available in your area.
