Cat scratchs at closet doors, how do I get her to stop?
My cat scratches at my closet doors in the middle of the night and I can't get her to stop doing it. I've tried putting tin foil on my doors but my cat learned to just scratch above the tin foil. She has a scratching post too. Have any ideas on how to get her to stop?

    Hi, podolph02!

Do you think there is anything in the closet that she might want?

    Thanks!

Cats don't care if there's something in there they want. They just want to open it cause it's there. (Of course, there could be something in there she wants too, but that's not necessarily the reason.)

My one cat scratches over in the corner of the room. Generally just yelling her name gets her to stop, but I'm just lucky on that one.

There's spray stuff you can get to put on stuff like that, furniture, etc. that turns them off. You could also just find a little squirt bottle and put like hot pepper sauce in it and squirt that on there. (NOT on the cat of course.)

Also making sure she's trained on the scratching post can help. If you put it next to the closet at night, she might use it instead, but she probably also wants in the closet.

Or just use the plain old squirt gun... keep it under your pillow and squirt her when she does it.

Wow! I honestly didn't think anyone else had this problem! Lol my cat does it too... I keep the closet open, that worked for about a week. Now, all this week she's back at it again! I've tried the spray stuff, w hot sauce, & also spray bottle... she just comes back for more.
I've even locked her out of the room, she just scratches at door. Also, the rec room, there she tore up the carpet at top of stairs. Its not like she is lonely. There is 3 other cats & all four of them are very close & playful.
Honestly I'm about ready to take the closet doors completely off! I know that is pathetic...
