    Cat meeting my new puppy
    Hi,

Im in need of some advice I have a cat called Alfie who is almost 2 and it has just been me him and my hubby and now we are getting a puppy chihauhau. I'm a bit worried as alfie is a very strong minded cat and think's he's boss he's a very loving cat and loves 2 cuddle up and sleep on me but if I clap him more than he wants me to then he bites or scratches and occasionally just does this when he feels like even if your not clapping him he'l just jump at your hand for a bite.

So I'm really worried about bringing such a small puppy and even fully grown the chihauhau is still going to be smaller than alfie.

How do I go about introducing them to one another and training them to be able to live together
Any help would be much appreciated xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Well, I know from experience at home that a cat can get used to a dog. My advice would be to introduce them safely. (Have control over their meeting, holding them carefully) There is no telling what will happen. Cats can either accept quickly or not. I'd just be very careful, and keep them both safe. If things go badly, you can just pull them apart (and keep them apart) until you feel it's okay to try again. They should get used to each other if you keep trying this. (Just curious, how does your cat act around strangers?)

    Hi morfias,

Thanks for your help. Well alfie's fine around strangers in fact he's fine around everyone as long as they don't pick him up or smother him he likes his own space x

Hmm... Well if he's okay with strangers, he should be okay with a puppy. Bigger dogs can make the cat feel threatened, and with the size of a Chihuahua, (especially a baby) it should be even better. :) I think you'll be fine. Like I said, introduce them carefully and go from there. (Hissing and clawing is very normal, give them at least half an hour, and if it does not stop, pull them apart and try again.) Sorry to kind of repeat myself, but, I really wish you fun!
