Hi, I discovered my male cat urinating in my closet a few days ago... I have been watching him and checking the litter box often to see if he is going in there (which he is). My husband and I just moved into a new house that we built about 35 days ago. So, I was thinking that this is the issue.
Then this morning, I caught my 6 year old female urinating in the corner of the dining room! They have never done anything like this before. I am worried. It doesn't seem likely that they would both have a urinary tract infection at the same time? Also, I swithched from Iams original formula to the Iams hairball formula when we moved. Could this be the problem?

Stress can be a major cause of this in cats of all ages. I do not think it is the food change at all, when you move you should place you cats in a room, where it is clam, with food and water and the litter box, after the house is unpacked and settled you can allow them out, when we move, I usually keep them in a bedroom or laundry room for the first week or so, I have had this happen to me in the past, I spoke with my vet and she told me to start over.


Clean all stain with a good cleaner that is designed to remove pet odors, I use nature miracle (works great) pick a room and try to keep them in it, till they start to settle and use the little box.

Finding all pet stains is hard but if you take a black light in a room with all other lights out you will see the stains, treat them as directed by what ever cleaner you have purchased, and hope for the best.

Talk to your vet and see what they have to say, I am sure they will be able to help also.

Thank you for your reply to my post. It was very helpful and I will heed your advice!
Maybe they have been urinating out of the box the entire time we have been here and I just didn't know it. There are so many new smells here, even to my human nose.

My husband will have a heart attack if he finds out about this. I do believe that I will also call the vet... I have to find a new one since moving. It is time for their yearly visit anyway.

You never know what smells are there from when from when the house was under construction, there could have been feral or stray cats in the neighborhood and may be your cat small were they have marked it could be any thing, but I will stick with my first, thought which is stress. I am truly glad that I was of help to you. :D
