Male cat refusing to use litter
I have a 3 year old neutered male, for the last 2 years he has been going to the toilet outside but in the last month he has been pooing and weeing in one particular place in the house, he has a cat door to go outside but we didn't have a litter inside, I have now put a litter inside but he refuses to use it. Not sure about this but I was thinking of placing the litter in the place that he always goes and then slowly moving it back into the laundry were we want him to use it.

I could really use your advice.

That's a good idea. If he has another accident, you might want to put the poo in the litter box so that he sees and smells it there. He probably doesn't understand that he's supposed to use it, so letting it get the scent of urine and poop will help him to realize this. It's a little gross to transport a turd from the floor to a nice clean litter box, but it might help him to make the connection.

    I have a suggestion,
I have two male 3 year old cats.
One of them was doing the same kind of thing but on a chair. He would use the litter for peeing but crap on the chair. I cleaned up after him again and again; where I was getting really frustrated. I read up on the issue and found cats don't like changes in their surroundings, more so than others and that's why they make messes for us to clean up.
I read in a book for cats too that when you have more than one cat, you need more than one cat litter box. I never had issues before but we had to move so that would have made him more sensitive. Some cats don't care as much with changes with their surrounds but changes in their food instead.

When I got that second cat litter box and showed it to him. Miraculously, he stopped! If you only have the one cat in your household than maybe putting the litter box where he goes will help him understand. Cats are creatures of habit, so your going to have to create a new habit for him.

    I wish you luck!
