    Kittens
I just got a six week old kitten and was wondering if I can give it a bath. I know I can't use flea shampoos on her but was wondering if its safe yet to bathe her? She came from a pet store and she smells a little. I used a flea comb on her and wiped her with a damp rag but didn't seem to do anything. Also there's always(every morning) gunk in her eyes just in the corner. Is that bad and should I get it checked? Thank you in advance for any answers!!

The gunk in the eyes is not unusual at all for kittens - and even grown cats for that matter... and yes, you can give her a bath. We've always used liquid baby bath soap for young kittens. Just be sure to rinse well when you're done... and for that, a kitchen sink sprayer works great.

It's perfectly safe to bathe a 6 week old kitten. Just be sure to keep it warm until it's dry. You mentioned using a flea comb... does it have fleas?

Gunk in the eyes is not always normal, especially if it is yellowish/greenish. It can indicate an infection or be a sign of a respiratory problem. It can even indicate an abnormality of the eye. Is the matter in the eyes crusty and keep the eyes glued shut until you remove it? See a vet, your kitty has an infection.

If it's just a little bit of brownish gunk in the corners of the eyes, it's probably normal everyday "eye boogers".:o

GEt the eye gunk checked. Don't give her a bath until you figure out if she has a cold in her eye. She might catch a chill.

Don't use OTC flea medications. They are too toxic and we have had several come in to the hospital with seizures and die. Revolution is safest to use on young kittens.
Yucky eyes that are causing eyes to be swollen and heavy discharge could be Feline Chlamydia. The kitten will need to be on an eye ointment.

Hi Yes its OK to put the kitten into a like warm bath up to neck level using the comb on he head and back after 10mins or so, Be sure you dry off the kitten straight away and near the fire or heater only wipe the kittens eyes if there is a big lump of gunge there, Otherwise let the kitten clean its self, Gunge is usually caused by the fleas, No fleas no gunge. Good luck CARL.
