My kitten is about 4 weeks old and its breathing fast won't eat just wants to sleep the same way my first cat did they gave me some amoxi drops for kittens for my first kitten and I never threw them away the date on the bottle is still good but it says throw away after 14 days I don't have money to take the little kitten to the vet and its dying would it hurt to give the kittten a drop of those amoxi drops. Someone told me they just say to throw them away because the medicine weaknes I don't know what to do I don't want to hurt it by giving it the drops buts its dying so plzz help anyone specialized or know what I could do I would apreciate any help.

Refrigerating helps the medicine stay strong, longer. How long have you had this medicine? It will not hurt the cat to take the medicine as long as it's still in date, although I don't recommend it. Another problem is that it probably won't help much, either. Keep in mind that you don't want to keep the kitten alive and suffering. If it doesn't do any better after you've given her the medicine for a few days, and you still don't have the money for a vet, I don't think it should be kept alive. (Trust me... I have a lot of cats that I'm very attached to and it pains me to even type such a thing. I love cats as much as myself and it's hard to think of a cat of mine being put down.)

Most vets are understanding if you are low on funds and can't afford medical bills. Call a vet and tell him the problem. Also, mention the financial thing. No vet wants an animal to suffer. He or she will give you suggestions on what to do.

All meds that state throw away or that say not good after 14 days are NOT GOOD! Do not give to the kitten or any other. The expiration date is for the drops prior to adding liquid.

If the mother didn't have vaccinations then the kitten is susceptible to all the illnesses below.

Has the source of these kittens been tested for Felv/FIV?

I work for a vet and get calls DAILY from people just like you that don't have funds and as much as we would like to save them all we just can't. It does cost a lot of money to run a veterinary clinic as I am sure you know. And if we don't get paid we can not pay for space, equipment, staff, training, lights, phone, etc... We do help some folks or do favors but at what point do you pick who to help? That situation really stinks!

Anyway, if you are having financial difficulties (like so many of us) and keep getting kittens that are sick and dying, maybe it is time to stop getting anymore kittens. Just for a short time, until you can afford proper treatment of course. Our suggestion would be this and if the kitten was still alive but suffering we would say take to animal control or local shelter to be euthanized and end the suffering.

Do not agree about using medication past its expiration date - it could get stronger, it could get weaker, it could separate - never a good idea.

And I absolutely agree about ending the animal's suffering.

I trust you will not consider another pet until you are 100% positive that you can afford the Vet bills and that whatever is making the kitten sick is not contagious.

My cat is on an antibiotic for a respitory infection and I think once they add the water it expires within 10 days. I don't suggest using it wihout consulting a vet. I also agree with wonderwoman.

I'm in Utah and have called several vets to find one that will take payments, they have told us they will take payments to kill the kitten but not to find out what is wrong with the cat. My kids are broken hearted how do I explain to them that because I do not have 500.00 or their cat has to die.
