My 7 year old male Siamese is being super jealous. Ever since we brought our new baby home (8 weeks ago) he has been crying in a very high pitched meow all the time! No matter how much love and cuddles we give him during the day come night time and it starts. I don't know what to do anymore. Will having him fixed make a difference? As if having a new baby isn't enough stress but his constant crying is driving me crazy! I'm at my wits end

Please get him neutered anyway. He is feeling displaced by the new kitten. (Siamese cats are very aware and sensitive.) Was the Siamese always attached to you in particular?

Yes he has always been attached to me, as his mother rejected the litter and I had to feed and care for them from the moment they were born. The thing is it is not a new kittie it is an actual baby. Will he eventually stop?

Oooops, sorry -- was thinking new kitten, not new baby. Cats on my brain...

I had a rescued part-Siamese who was my soulmate (see my Blog story about him, the pearly gates story). When I ended up in the hospital ten years ago, Thomas turned into a total brat at home, whining and crying and starting fights with the other cats. My son called me wondering what to do, so he held the receiver to Thomas's ear and I briefly and very clearly told him where I was and that I loved him very much and would be home soon. He calmed down after that. I learned that, whenever something unusual was going on (and you know cats are creatures of habit and hate their routine messed up), I always took time to explain to Thomas and to the other cats what was going on. I felt like an idiot but it always seemed to work. I still do that to this day with my current batch of cats.

Maybe sit down with your cat and give that a try.

Also, your cat, as an unneutered male, may be thinking the baby's cry sounds like a female cat in heat (they are similar sounding), so that could also be triggering his howling. Neutering would be a Good Thing To Do. And recovery is very fast. He can come home the same day it's done and with no special aftercare.
