2 days.I have her on doxycycline.she is responding better today.still panting, sneezing and coughing.I looked in her throat for obstruction but do not see anything.I do another cat with the same symptoms but he is younger and responding well.it scares me a little because she never gets sick.I was wondering if maybe its because she is almost 8yrs old and has been very healthy all her life.

No but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out 2mg/kg twice daily, plus the fact that between my cat lady who happens to be an md and she taught what to give and how to give it.I will not see her until Thursday.I would have already asked her.

Eight years old is middle age for a cat. Not old by any means.

I would really urge you to seek a vets advice on this.

Please let us know how it goes.

Sadly we really can't diagnose online. There are too many possibilities, and guessing won't help you or your cat. The vet really is the only one that can tell you what's going on.

Please keep us posted so we know how kitty is doing, and good luck. :)

Your friend is risking herself prescribing medication to a species she is not permitted to treat (especially since 2mg/kg is not the proper dose of Doxycycline for a cat). Posing as a Veterinarian is considered illegal. And being a human doctor does not = veterinarian.

I hope you take your cat to an actual vet soon.

Could be Feline asthma in which antibiotics won't help. You should really take her into the vet instead of having a human physician try to treat her.. animals, especially cats, are different critters all around. Some medications just don't agree with them and it can be life threatening.. especially if your cat is having a hard time breathing.
