My cat had kittens next door
    Hi,
I have a cat who had her babies in next doors garage, there is so much junk in there that when we went in there to look for them, we couldn't find them. We thought that the kittens had died, but today the kittens showed up under the house. We managed to get two of them out, (with a bit of hissing :( ). But I can't get the other one to come out. It will come out when mum is sitting near her, but when we try to go near her to pick her up and bring her in, she runs back under the house. How can I get the kitten to come out long enough for me to grab her?

You might want to create a "nest" out of a box. Throw in some towels and place mama in it with her kittens. Put it near where the kitten is and try to keep watch from a discreet distance. When the third one comes out, wait for it to go to the box. Mama may even pick her up and put her in there with the other two. Then you can pick them all up and take them inside. That's about the best idea I can come up with. If Mama is separated too long from this kitten, it is going to die. The other thought that comes to mind is to call your vet and ask if they have any suggestions.

To avoid this kind of thing in the future, after the kittens are weaned, you might want to consider spaying Mama cat so you don't have any unplanned pregnancies. It is the kindest thing you can do for your cats.

Try being social to Mama. Have a seat near the entrance, and wait for Mama to come see you. Pet her and be extra nice and do all of this on her terms... she's just had a rough time, after all. Once the kitten sees that Mama is happy and comfortable with you, he'll be more accepting of you. Don't look directly at the kitten (or at Mama) when doing this... eye contact is aggressive and threatening among cats. Not looking at him is a sign of trust on your part.

You can also take advantage of the natural curiosity cats have. Put something interesting outside, and just wait. You have more patience than a kitten does... he'll eventually come out and take a look, even if the scary human is around.

Once you get him out, get him back together with his siblings. He'll grow out of much of his timidity just from that.
