    Is this bad?
Our cat came home earlier with some kind of injury, his head was bleeding, and after a while green pus started coming out of the wound.
We called the vet who was almost closing and she made an appointment for 9.30am tomorrow, and were we live, there are no emergancy vets around.
The vet said it sounded like a bite, he may have been in a fight.

I took some pictures, they are not the clearest, but at least it shows what I am talking about.

It kind of looks like he has a hole in his head up close and it won't stop bleeding.

What can we do in the meantime until the morning to make sure he is OK and not in pain?

I'm certainly not a vet but I do know that basic first aid is called for.

Take a cotton ball and press it to the wound until the bleeding stops. Head wounds are notorious bleeders so expect a fairly long hold at least 2 to 3 minutes long.

Once the bleeding stops, soak a cotton ball with peroxide and clean the wound. If she gets spastic on you, see if she will tolerate salted water.

If you have any antibiotics in the house, call the poison hot line and see if they can be give to the cat.

In addition to the above, it can't hurt to put some antibiotic ointment on her, like neosporin after the wound is cleaned. Best of luck!

That looks worse than any cat bite I have ever seen , to me it looks like a BB wound. Also make sure that it keeps draining, even if youhave to press around it a little, I am surprised that the infection set up so quickly in it. Normally that takes a day or so to occur. *edit scratch my advice if the blood is flowing, you do not want it to mke the blood flow heavier.please let us know how everything turns ou tomorrow, I am sure your cat will need an antibiotic.

Less is best here! If it is bleeding pretty bad make sure not to pour hydrogen peroxide on it... this will cause it to bleed more and make it harder to control. To stop the bleeding, take several pieces of clean or sterile gauze, place them over the wound and hold down firmly until it stops... bandage if possible. To treat the wound after bleeding has stopped,: All wounds are contaminated with dirt and bacteria... of course. Proper care and handling will prevent infections so before handling a wound, make sure your hands and instruments are clean. Starting at the edges of a fresh wound, clip the hair back to enlarge the area. Cleanse the edges with a damp gauze or pad. Irrigate the wound with clean tap water. Apply antibiotic ointment. Older wounds covered with pus and scab should be cleaned with 3 percent hydro- gen peroxide solution diluted 1 part to 5 parts water. Hydrogen peroxide can DAMAGE tissue, so use it only once. Thereafter, cleanse with a Betadine solution (dilute 1 part to 10 parts water). Blot dry. Apply an antibiotic ointment! Bites are VERY VERY dirty... especially if bitten by another cat; you kitty will need antibiotics ASAP. Good luck and let me know if you have anymore questions!
