The kitten that I have found has been abandoned by its mother. The poor little thing has fleas all over it. How do I get rid of them? The kitten is probably no more than 3- 4 weeks old. Plus I need to know how to feed it. I don't get paid for 2 more weeks then I can take it to the vet, but in the meantime I need to do something for the poor thing. :confused:

The best thing you can do to feed it since it is so small... purchase a very tiny bottle. Could be found at your local pet store. You will have to give it milk. But it can't be cold milk it will have to be warm. Not hot though. Just luke warm like a mother's teet milk. Anyway, the best way to feed her to try to get her off the milk would be to buy a few vitamins from the same pet store... ask an associate what's best... and buy a few cans of cat food. What you need to do is... take a teeny tiny bit of cat food (obviously the soft kind) and mix the vitamn in with it. Also you'll want to mix it with some warm milk. At first put a lot of milk in it so it's easier to get down her little tiny throat. As time passes there will be more and more food and less and less milk in it. If you can't get the vitamins right now that's fine. But you will have to get the bottle and the soft cat food. Also, about the fleas. The only thing you can really do for a kitten so tiny is give it a warm bath with kitten shampoo and buy it a flea collar. Once it gets a little older you will be able to use Frontline Flea & Tick control for kittens. If you are still not sure what to do my advice would be to call a local vet and see if someone can help you over the phone. If the vet won't help call a pet store.
Make sure to keep it warm at all times and keep a close eye on it. It is not able to sustain itself without it's mother yet so it's still kind of iffy if it will make it (sad but true).

Do not put a flea collar on a kitten that young! You're going to have to handle fleas the old-fashioned way... a fine-toothed comb, and some soapy water to drown the fleas that you comb out. And at that age you probably still need to use kitten milk replacer to be sure that the kitten is getting all the right nutrients.

If you can afford a vet in a few weeks, I'd get some references and start calling now. Tell them your situation, and see if they will see the kitten now and get paid then. Young kittens can go downhill really fast, and I'd prefer you get some advice from a professional now rather than later. Some vets will even do an initial check-up free for a rescue cat (they know it's good customer service, since you are likely to go back to them for care later on if they establish a good relationship with you at the start).

I have put flea collar son kittens very young before and I saw no negative side effects. Of course, froggy7 may know something that I don't. I am sorry if I gave you false information.
