My maintenance light in on my 2001 honda civic.. HELP ME

Does that mean that something is electronically wrong w/ the car?
Or do I need an oil change..

My brakes are also acting up..
They squeak in the front and they grind in the back..
What the heck do I do..

I would take it in to a shop but before I do that I want to know what
I'm getting myself into. Make sure their not over charging me or trying to
