What states can a car with a lien on it be disposed of?

I need to get rid of a old car which has a lien on it. I'd like to simply take it to a junkyard to get it out of my backyard. Will junkyard accept it or how do I dispose of it?

I bought a used car a little over ten years ago, and defaulted on the payments less than a year later. So it's been 9 years, and the bank never reposessed the car. However, I am stuck with the car as the bank has a lien going back to the purchase, and holds the title. I am in the state of NY....
