Is it a key or ignition problem when I can't turn my key to start 1998 Honda Accord?
I stopped to get gas in my 1998 Honda Accord Sedan. When I got back into my car and tried to start it I couldn't get the key to turn at all. It's as if it was on lockdown.
I tried to turn the wheels since sometimes I've had to turn the wheels for it to release the lock and start. That didn't work this time. I tried everything to try to get it to turn but no luck. My friend suggested I try with my spare key. Its not a chipped key so it will only unlock the doors and steering column. I tried it and released the lock, but when I tried my regular key it was a "no go" again. After several frustrating minutes (not to mention blocking the fuel island) I tried jiggling the key as I tried to turn it and it finally turned over. I've been given different opinions... 1. It's the starter and 2. It's the key. (the chip has gone bad and my key is worn down) Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Try spraying WD-40 into the key slot. It sounds like a key problem, to me. It's best not to keep the ignition key on a ring with a bunch of other keys. Over time, it can cause unusual wear and lock problems. Keep your key ring light.

I would say the key, compare the profile of both keys to see if you can see excessive wear. A halfway good key duplicating person should be able to take care of, not necessarily a locksmith.
