In a Ford it could be the solenoid but in chevys I think the solenoid is a part of the starter
I used to get bad solenoids in my Fords and would have to start my truck with a screw driver on the solenoid.
Try starting it in neutral and see what happens.
It could be your spark or compression too

SOUNDS like you have a electrical short and it drains your battery down. Your lights will still work ,but dim and have not enough juice to turn the motor over .it is probley your sterior that has the short in it some where. Disconnect the sterio for a couple days and see if it makes a difference, if it does you know that it is in the sterio system Let us know . IF Iv'e helped rate my ans. Below Good luck F.B.E.

Check all under-hood and under-dash fuses with a test light or multimeter:

#1 check all of your fuses, under the dash, and under the hood, your master fuses are there, if they are bad your car won't start
