    '97 Mazda 626 acceleration problem
    Hello
I have a '97 mazda 626 4 cylinder engine Automatic. Number of miles on the car: 114K.
I have been driving that car for 3 years. Recently I am having this slight trouble.

When I start my car cold [after 4 hrs of just parked in a garage], the car will start fine. It is fine till about 20 mph. The problem comes is when I step on the gas to accelerate. The RPM of the engine goes up considerable. The speed of the car is just about 30 mph. After about 6 minutes of driving like which I think consumes more gas too, the car then functions fine.
Please keep in mind that this problem just turned up suddenly. I have not taking my car to a mechanic for about 2 months now. I had him change the timing belt and the transmission fluid.
Also I just checked the transmission fluid level. It was way above the limit mark mentioned on the wire gauge.

    What could be wrong?
    How can it be fixed?

Thanks in advance for the response.
    Regards
    Pallavi

Something similar happened to me once. And it ended up being the timing belt was timed wrong or something like that. I'd just see if they could double check that first. Otherwise I really don't know, but hopefully you've figured it out by now or have gotten other inputs.

I had a similar problem and found out that it was caused by a fuel pump regulator located in front of the gas tank. Replace it yourself and save 400 dollars. Part costs between 15 and 32 dollars. Labor is easy.
