96 Dodge Ram 1500 Brake Lights Won't Work.
Can anyone help me, I have a 96 Dodge 1500. The brake lights stopped working and now the ABS and brake lights on the dash won't go off, any suggestions? Thanks.

For starters, concerning the ABS and dash lights that won't go off:

. Check brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level.

    . Check for codes.

. The link below may help:

For brake lights that stopped working:
. Test all under-dash and under-hood fuses with a test light or multimeter.
    . Check for socket corrosion.
. Check for socket power, using a test light.
. Check brake light switch, located above brake pedal. Check switch for continuity and adjustment. Clean and spray switch with WD-40.

You possibly have several things going on here--they may or may not be related (just coincidental). Good luck.

Thanks but what would that have to do with the brake lights not working? I've read it could be a speed sensor but that usually messes with your speedometer and haven't read anything about it messing with your brake lights also. I don't have anything to read codes just looking for some ideas, Thanks so much for your help.

And after verifying the fuse in the drivers door jam is good, as it the one in the power distribution panel under the hood dealing with lights (and all other fuses to be found are good too), and replacing the brake pedal switch, and verifying brake fluid level is fine, and putting a code reader on (no thrown codes btw)... he should check what next?
