    If the CEL comes on consistently for 2 seconds and then goes out, when the ignition switch is turned to ON (Position II), then focus on the distributor. This assumes the engine is in sound shape. Normally, then, replacing the Ignition Control Module (ICM) and coil solves the problem. Be sure to apply silicone heat transfer compound to the back of the new ICM. Finally, replace the spark plugs (NGK only), if they have been in over 3 years, and replace the distributor cap and rotor, if they have been in over 60,000 miles.
