I bought a 91 honda accord its giving a aerror code 9 and seems to shift a little out of time. Are these related to the error code or should I look at the tcu for repair. Anyway help I just want to et rid of my error code:eek: :cool:

You need to verify this, but I believe a DTC 9 is a problem in the Cylinder Position (CYP) Sensor circuit. The CYP Sensor detects the position of No. 1 cylinder for sequential fuel injection to each cylinder. This is a problem with one of the sensors inside the distributor. The only solution I know is to replace the distributor housing. There's no ability to replace bad internal sensors. It's amazing your distributor has lasted this long. Most likely, the internal bearing is going, with the resulting wear manifesting itself in a DTC 9. I believe the cheapest and best solution is to buy a replacement distributor housing from Honda and install your old igniter, coil, and rotor. There's a good chance that this is responsible for both problems you're experiencing.

So your saying the distributor can cause the shiftin problems as well cause I did confirm the code is cyp and I just wanted to be sure spending money on this is not wasted.

These days, computers control both the engine and transmission. Often, it's difficult to tell if the problem is engine or transmission related. It's entirely possible for a DTC 9 to affect engine performance, which, in turn, affects how and when the transmission shifts. This assumes you have been regularly changing the transmission fluid and filter and that the transmission is in good shape. Obviously, it's hard for me to tell anything from afar and I have to defer to your judgment in the situation.

Well the distributor was replaced still get err code #9 which is #1 position cylinder sensor any ideas? What to do

1. Did you install a new Honda or aftermarket distributor housing?
2. Did you reset your computer afterwards?

If you installed a new Honda distributor housing, and you reset your computer afterwards, then the problem must be with your ECM.

Brand new aftermarket/ and resetting requires removing the negative terminal on the abattery right?

Yes. However, 4 or 5 other Car & Trucks members have had problems with new aftermarket distributors. I wouldn't have expected it, but that's the way it turned out. The most likely cause of a Code 9 is the distributor, since that's where the sensor is. The only other explanation would be your ECM and that seems to be somewhat unlikely.
