    1997 Pontiac Grand Am
Does anyone know where the orifice tube is located on a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am? Or, does the 1997 Pontiac Grand Am even have an orifice tube? We just replaced the AC compressor and evaporator, but cannot find where the orifice tube goes?

That vehicle has a Thermal Expansion Valve (TXV):

To replace it, partial disassembly or the car's interior is necessary: the valve is located forward of the center console, inside the HVAC case. When you replaced the evap core, you should have seen that expansion valve.

Why were the original two parts replaced?
If the system was just leaking or the compressor clutch had failed, does the valve really need to be replaced? Probably not.
If the compressor had internal failure and some of the debris from that failure moved through the system, replacement is necessary.

Make certain use add the proper amount of the proper refrigerant oil when doing your work.
