1996 ford taurus Duratech crankshaft removal
I am trying to help a friend out w/ his 96 Taurus Crankshaft. It is the original crankshaft and was originally a two piece unit. Anyway, Ford has upgraded the pulley totally and no longer has rubber for a dampener. In the pulley All I know is that I removed the crankshaft assembly which included 3 bolts and the center 34mm bolt. Now my problem is the 6 in shaft that has a 24mm notch to remove the shaft. The problem is that I am having is when I try to remove the shaft, the motor is cranking w/ it. It is a clockwise removal thread and I am stumped as to how to get this shaft off? Please help you Ford mechanics out there if possible.

    1. Remove the driveplate access cover and engage ring gear teeth with a large screwdriver or pry bar.

    2. Remove the nuts that secure the pulley bracket to the engine front cover. Remove the pulley and bracket from the engine.

    3. The crankshaft pulley screws into the crankshaft damper with a left-hand thread; turn the crankshaft pulley clockwise to loosen and remove it.

    4. Remove the crankshaft damper retaining bolt, which has conventional, right-hand threads.

    5. Remove the crankshaft damper with a bolt-type puller. A crankshaft damper puller has bolts that screw into the holes in the center of the damper. Do not use a gear puller or any puller that grips the outer circumference of the damper. Such a puller will destroy the damper.

    6. Using a suitable seal puller, remove the crankshaft front seal from the engine front cover. Note the orientation of the sealing lip, so that the new seal will be installed in the same direction.

    Hope this helps.
