I have an extra headlight (regular low-beam) for my Honda Accord. I followed the instructions from the manual for how to change them, but when I went to turn the burnt-out bulb to release it from its holder, it would not budge. I checked this procedure on the other headlights to make sure I was doing it properly, and they turned. So I am wondering if it is safe to use WD40 or something like that to loosen the back of the bulb? I tried wrenches and pliers too. It is really stuck. It feels gritty when it turns (about a millimeter). Thanks for your help.

You can try WD-40, but Kroil or PB Blaster would be better. Make sure not to touch the new bulb directly--use a paper towel. Body oil on the bulb can shorten its life.

I know this is an old question, but I thought I'd give my answer for those who end up here via Google. I did a number on an old bulb trying to turn an unturnable part.

The passenger low beam headlight bulb in a 95 Accord does not turn. It is held in by a black retaining ring. If you pull out the coolant overflow, you can see a ring with the words "open" and "close" on them. Turn that ring counter clockwise, in the direction of the arrow by open, a quarter turn. You should then be able to remove the bulb. You may have to jiggle it a little at the open position to get the bulb out.

Note, the driver's side bulb does turn and pull out.

Thank you very helpful. I had to use a slot screwdriver and small hammer with mild force to get the big black retaining ring to turn counter clockwise but it gave way and I could remove the bulb. A similar process to get the wiring socket loose.
