Does anyone know the proper steps to go through when you have a possible invention?
I know there are a lot of scams out there. Where do you start or rather who should I call to secure the idea before it is taken?
I live out in the DC area.

First off document everything. Then try to discover what kind of patent you want to apply for. They fall under many categories from strict to open. If you have a working model make a video etc. The seek out a patent attorney. And follow their recommendations for submission to the patent office.
