Try piercing your ears before you do this...

Well, if they numb it a bit before they pierce it then it won't be as much pain as just still being totally freaked out. Being scared will definitely outweigh the pain either way. You will feel pressure that because of your nerves will feel like pain for the first split second but then you will just sit there like 'omg omg omg' with a plastic tube sticking through your tongue lol. Personally the piercing part itself doesn't hurt as much as you think. It's the pull out the plastic casing to place in the bar. That's what got me. Good luck!!

Why do you think your playing ability will suffer? What will suffer is your teeth when you keep clacking the ball against your teeth. I for one, think that the ball inside someone's mouth constantly clicking against their teeth is stupid. Also you are going to have to learn to speak clearly. It's going to be like having dentures in your mouth.

    To guyver:
If you have a high tolerance for pain, don't worry about it. I've had 4 facial piercings and the tongue was the least painful out of all of them.

Totally uncalled for. He's asking for advice, not how you feel about tongue piercings. This has no valuable advice for the OP whatsoever, not to mention that it is insulting to people who don't find piercings "stupid." I've had mine, my sister has hers, my sister-in-law has hers... having a tongue stud is nothing like having dentures at all; where are you getting this information from?

twinkiedooter -- I'm not meaning to offend you here, but telling someone how stupid they are, or their piercings are, does not answer their question. Questions about piercings and tattoos can be medically related, and if you cannot answer the question as it is asked, its best not to say anything.

Guyver -- what instrument do you play? As far as whether it will hurt, it all depends on your tolerance for pain. If you have a high pain tolerance, it may not hurt. If its low, it may be uncomfortable. Just remember that the worst part of any piercing is not the actual act of getting the piercing, it is the 1-2 weeks after you get it. That is when you will experience the most discomfort.

Where do I get my information about having people learn to speak is like having dentures in your mouth? From personal observation watching people with balls in their tongues clicking and clacking away and "playing" with the ball in their mouth. Most people can't properly pronounce words as easily as they could before. It is highly distracting to watch and annoying to hear the click clacking of the ball against the teeth. Dentists sure like these balls as they make for great dental bills from tooth erosion. As you get older you'll see what I mean.

The indent is normal and for most people it goes away with time. Your tongue needs time to adjust to the new piercing. :)

When did I ever say you weren't entitled to your opinion? Oh, that's right... I didn't. I said the OP is asking for factual advice, not your opinion. I never said you weren't allowed to have one that differed.

Furthermore, you need to stop abusing the rating system. It is not there for you to give people red boxes just because you don't like tongue studs.

So I got the bar changed and a bigger ball put on both ends but it still sits at an angle and makes an indent in my tongue how do I solve this? Big ball on top small on bottom?
