I have my tongue pierced. If I recall rightly, it did hurt a bit when they pushed it through. The problem for me wasn't that bit, it was the pain afterwards. Your tongue becomes very tender and sometimes swollen and hurts to move it and eat.

If you do have it done, you must follow the piercers after care plan that they give you. I had no problem with my healing but some do. There's always going to be risk with piercing, just a matter of whether you're willing to take it.

The things I was directed to eat were things such as soups and a lot of ice cream to numb the pain a bit. Luckily, your brain doesn't remember pain so it isn't such a bad ordeal to go through for most.

I've had mine pierced for over 8 years now and I do not regret it one bit. If kind of feels like a part of me now and feels very strange if I ever take it out.

It will chip your teeth and ruin your front ones, cause fillings to crack and break off, pretty much guarantee you will need dentures some day, cause you to pronounce words poorly so you sound like you have a bunch of stones in your mouth, will limit what you can eat and how you chew, and possibly cause a serious infection in your tongue (not "tounge"), cause the gums to recede which can lead to more serious dental/oral complications, create allergies, and put you at risk for developing a fatal infection, such as Ludwig's angina or endocarditis.

Not all people have the above problems. I haven't had any of them so maybe I am lucky if they are so common. Speak to a piercer for advice. Oh and also, not everyone can have their tongue pierced, it depends on where the veins are in your tongue.

Wikipedia is not a credible source and is definitely not a credible MEDICAL source. There are indeed risks to tongue piercings, just as there are with many other forms of body art. I, myself, have plenty of tattoos and I accepted the many risks that go along with those tattoos.

Most places won't pierce anyone under the age of 16, and 16 to 18 with parental approval.

If you do find a piercer that is willing to pierce your tongue for you at your age, this is not a professional piercer. Wait until you are 18.
