Does your mother approve?
Or is it okay in your state at 14 without moms approval?

In most states, if you are under 18, you must be 16 and have parental consent. If you don't have parental consent, you can't get it. You may want to go over your state laws with your parents. Here is where you can find them :
Tattooing and Body Piercing
As far as whether it will hurt or not, that all depends on your tolerance for pain. If your pain tolerance is high, it may not be as bad as it would for someone with a low pain tolerance.
Keep in mind, the worst part of any piercing is not the act of the piercing itself, it's the healing time (the first week after having it done).

You might want to start with getting your ears pierced cause that is more traditional and might not be as big of a N0 WAY to your parents and you can see if you can tolerate that.
I think tongue piercing would be more painful.

The piercing itself does not cause that much pain. It is the swelling associated with the healing process that hurts. It takes a lot of work to keep it clean. It is also hard to eat or talk for 72 hours.
I suggest discussing it with your parents.

Owwww. Sounds like it would really hurt to me, but I certainly can't speak from experience.

Even if your mom says its okay, keep in mind that where you live you may just be too young to get your tongue pierced.

Pain is in the threshold of the beholder! I could say it didn't hurt me but that doesn't mean it won't hurt you. I don't know many moms who would approve of such a piercing in a 14 yr old I mean wouldn't you rather get your belly button pierced? But to answer your question most people say it doesn't hurt. I had mine done 3 times so what does that tell you. The swelling and funny talking afterward will be the worst part.

Keep in mind that any piercing will hurt! You will experence swelling, and possibly infection. Check out where you're going to get it done and make sure it's legit.

I wouldn't get your tongue pierced. I saw a girl with it pierced before and she could barely talk and it wasn't too attractive.

My 20 year old cousin had her tongue pierced last year, she also has a belly button piercing and of course her ears. She said that the tongue piercing was by far the most painful. Also, the enamel on her teeth are getting chipped because she can't stop playing with her piercing, she has expensive dental bills in her future.
I personally wouldn't get a tongue piercing, but I believe in everyone's right to choose. Having said that, I think that you are way to young to get a piercing like this, start small, maybe ears or belly button and wait a few years to get your tongue pierced.
There are other risks in regards to tongue piercing, you might want to do some research before you go for it.
Good luck!

You have to be 16 in order to get anything done!
I know that sucks because I want one too..
But at least I have to wait 3 more months!
Good Luck

I am 14 and I got my tongue pierced. So, if your wanting to know if it hurts, well not too bad. Its hurts real bad when it goes through your last layer of skin. But it feels super cool when the needle drops. Now, be sure they know what they are doing. Be aware of major veins. I had mine done at home, by a friend. Healing is the worse part.

This thread was started in 2008. The OP is now 18 years old, and if she decided to get her tongue pierced I'm sure it's healed by now. :)
Always a good idea to check the date of a post before responding.
