Several color mess ups & still too red-toned!
Okay, I have naturally medium brown hair. I dye my hair for the grays, but in 4 weeks it always washes out to look orangy/red. I was told by a pro that I had a red cortex. She told me to use a natural dark blonde... I put on a naturale brown instead, and it came out way too dark & red! I then bought a box of "Hair Color Remover" & did as instructed... leaving me w/ light orange hair. It said it would leave me ready to color - so I then put on a dark ash blonde... still too much orangy red, even w/ an ash! Now what? Would a toner do it? I really cannot afford a salon right now... I do not want to go any darker. I keep reading about using an ash - but it just did not work. Any suggestions or things I can to by running to sallys would be wonderful!!

    Thanks so much!

First of all, color remover is just a form of bleach... it is NOT going to just take out arificial color. My suggestion is to put on a semi permanent color on towel dried hair , level 6 colors would probably work in a natural shade. You don't need to put on another permanent hair color as it uses 20 volume developer, wich lifts color, and then deposits. A semi permanent just deposits color. Put it in fast, and then watch it. For future use... get a color shampoo(with color pigment in it so your color won't fade between applications.

Try using a medium ash brown instead of dark ash blonde. If you think that the medium ash brown is too dark for you, then choose a light ash brown. This should tone down the red/orange tones, but if it doesn't work, you should consider letting a hairstylist fix your hair.
