Received Summons for Credit Card Debt (Utah)
I received a summons from a lawyer representing a collection company (Arrow Financial Services) for an outstanding credit card balance which I have been unable to pay (I was out of work for a long time and have had health issues on and off for the past few years). It says that I have to respond within 20 days in writing to the issuing court clerk. I have no idea what I should write back. I would greatly appreciate some guidance or response examples. I have a very limited income, not even enough to pay my rent yet, not to mention other bills and other outstanding debts. I can't afford a judgement nor can I afford a bankruptcy lawyer, however I did inquire with a free consultation. $1400 to file bankruptcy! I'm in a catch-22 situation here and don't know what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you look through the many similar threads here, you will find the answers.

You do have to respond to the court with your Intent to Defend. But, if the collection agency can show this is your debt and they have a right to collect, then they will obtain a judgement against you.

However, if you have no assets, there won't be much they can attach.
