Need to value oil canvas found in wall
A friend has found an oil painting rolled up inside a wall. He described it as about 24X16. It used to be framed. The signature reads A. Phalipp or Pholipp (or perhaps Philipp but probably not). It is a picture of a young boy around the turn of the century maybe earlier. He is a redhead with blue eyes. The background is green. Has anyone got any info on this or suggestions on where to look? Thanks.

Wow, how intriguing, I have no clue about the painting. If I were you I would take it to a large gallery or museum and see if they could give you details if you don't get some answers on here.
Also do you know the history of the home you live such as previous owners, their community standing, if the house was ever a place of business.
Good luck on getting info.
If no one beside myself answers you tonight check back in tomorrow.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will look into the history of the house. We were thinking it would be nice to bring it to an antique road show...

Here is an A. Philipp, does your painting look similar to the ones on this link?
Philipp Augustus Barnard on artnet
Another A.Philipp, could it be the same artist as your painting?
Philipp Arons on artnet
If it is possible for you to post a photo,it might help.Especially Clough,he is good with enhancing images and looking at finer details of paintings.

Hi there, I checked out the picture link you sent and I'm pretty sure it isn't any of those four. Part of the problem is it is a friend that has the painting. I've never seen it. He did say that it is of a redhead little boy wearing old style clothing. He is computer illiterate :) and asked me to check into it. So there is no way to post a pic because he doesn't have the internet at home to walk him through sending a pic from his camera. I'll ask him to take a picture and bring it to Mal-Wart Maybe they can send it to my email... Thanks for the suggestions...

As you can see the signature doesn't read what he originally thought and I would date the picture around the 1950's maybe?
