Size: 243.5 KBI have an original oil on plywood that shows several groups of characters engaged in several common activities. A friend of mine who comes from Poland and goes back several times a year suggested that it might be painted by a Polish artist or another European country since the characters look similar to those in her country. I looked on the internet and the closest I could come would be Max Beckman, a German artist. But it is 54 by 44 inches and his paintings are usually quite smaller.. Does anyone know who might have painted it or where it might have been painted or where is all this activity taking place. I thought it might be a prison but there is a lady with the rest of the crew. Thanks ahead of time. One of the characters, the guy on the top right with the gal has a tatoo of what looks like a fleur-du-lis or some other leaf but I don't know if that could help.

Is the painting signed? Initials? Anything to determine who the artist is?

Sadly there are so many styles and so many artists, and so many painting, even with the name of the artist finding anything out about this particular painting would be like finding a needle in a haystack.

It's a gorgeous painting, I love the colors, and the depictions. I'm very picky about art, and I really like this piece. I'd say you're very lucky to have it and I'd hold on to it.

If you really want to know more then I'd suggest taking it to an art appraiser. Even then it will depend on the knowledge that appraiser has about this particular style and the artists that painted in it. But that really would be your best bet.

    Good luck.

    Hi,

Thanks for the interest in my painting. No there is no initials or signatures on the painting or on the back. I took it out of the frame and nothing shows up. I even used a backlight over the entire front and back and still no luck. I think when I said that the guys with the gal had a flower on his chest is wrong. Looks more like the artist just painted a little hair on the chest most likely. I sent a photo of the painting to Antique trader and the person who responded said that he thought that the style resembled several Latin American artist but I sent photos to several galleries that show and offer Latin American works but got no responses.

    Thanks again for the response,

    Bob B
