    Window unit not cooling
Hey. New guy here. I have an older fridgidair window unit. It cools fine when it's cool outside but above 75 or 80 degrees it won't cool. Any suggestions? Thanks, JTB.

Very little goes wrong with one of these except that they need cleaning each year. Remove the covers on the coils and use alkaline coil cleaner to clean the coils, or use Easy-Off Oven Cleaner, the old type that has lye and foams. Wear rubber gloves. Clean the coils and the fans very well and oil motor. Turn it on its side to dump out water often. Make sure drains are clear. When you run it make sure compressor comes on. If not, you will have to check the t-stat and wiring to find problem. That's about it. Never add "Freon" (refrigerant). It's not necessary unless there is a leak you need to weld up.
