So about a week and a half ago I went to get an Otter Pop out of the freezer and noticed it was almost half thawed. I had noticed it had been running a lot but I didn't really take notice. I cleaned the coils and that helped a little but the freezer and refrigerator never really got cold. Then a few days later I noticed a lot of ice build up on the back wall. I scraped it off and dried off the back and turned it on and it seems to be working good now however just in the last 24 hours I've noticed more frost building up.

I checked the gaskets and the bottom corner is cracked and leaky so I know I need a new one but would the gasket leak cause that much ice on the back? I read a few things around and think my heater might be bad because most people said a gasket leak would cause ice build up around the leak, not on the back.

The crack is about 2 inches long and the corner is cracked as well.

Probably the defrost element is bad. Thaw the freezer, remove the screws holding the tray in-some models pop out-and you should see a thin heating element under the tray. Unscrew the connector and remove it. If you go to Sears parts depot you can read the repair manual for the ohm range and then they may be able to test it for you or go to an appliance parts warehouse and they can do the same. If you have a VOM you can test it yourself.

Good answer but it could just be your gasket too. The back wall is the coldest spot so moist air gets inside, condenses and freezes. Defrost again and tempoarily put duct tape around the door sealing it air tight. Check tomorrow, no ice it's the gasket, got ice get a new heater
