Replaced Dryer Second One doesn't work either
My dryer stopped working -- it would not do anything. I had a repairman come out and look at it. He said it was wired funny and the motor was bad. So a friend had an old dryer that she had been using but was going to get rid of. It worked at her house. Her son helped me get it to my house. We hooked it up and it does not work at my house. I asked the Landlord about it. He used his meter to check it and says it is getting power. My friends step son checked it and said there is something wrong with the neutral wire not getting power. I thought the neutral wire was not supposed to get power. Now I'm confused. Is it the electricity or is it the dryers. I just found it odd that neither dryer would work. My friend is going to hook my first dryer up and see if it works at her house and if it does we know it must be in the wiring somewhere at my house. What else would cause a dryer not to work at all? Any thoughts?

    Wired funny means little.

The dryer can be 4 or 3 wire. We don't know what you have.
Jumpers need to be set or removed to change this set up.

You did mention the neutral, so:
Between ground and neutral there should be close to 0 volts.

Between any hot and ground/neutral there shoud be 120 V

And between the two hots, there should be 240 V.

This is only part of the story, because under load that voltage could drop to nearly zero, if the breaker is bad.

Testing the breaker is harder. 1st thing to do is to inspect the breaker for any obvious discoloration or loose connections. Inspect the outlet for the same.

The dryer breaker can be bad
