Red ink pen exploded in dryer
A red ink pen went through the washer okay, but exploded in my electric dryer.

I have used Goo Gone with a clean rag - turning often, and am making headway - but I don't think it will get off the Baked On ink.

Any suggestions? Laundry is backing up fast! Help!!

Methanol will probably work and would not damage the underlying surface. I'd also try grafeitti remover, but test in an inconspicuous spot.

With any of these products, if there are appliances with pilot lights, turn them off and ventilate completely before restarting them.

If you run it at Hot setting it has a tendency to bake on for good and not leach out. This I know from experience unfortunately. Of course your first load should be a test load of rags.

Thanks NK, that is what I am doing now. Running a hot as I can get it with the towels I use for the dogs bath. They won't care if I stain their towels!

Let me know it works for you. Inside our dryer we have some small patches of funky colours and stickers that will never come off. Ah the joys of having 2 young children. :)

Emland - My wife one time melted lipstick on her nurses's uniform and she used what is called (LESTOIL) IT took the lipstick out of the uniform, dryer etc. I always carried it in my work truck to clean all kinds of stuff, If I got Tar, Plastic roof cement, glue, paint, or grease, on my hands, I'd pour a little on my hands then wipe with paper towel, & I had clean hands. A renter in a house I took care of , took a motorcycle apart & (REBUILT the ENGINE) on living room carpet, I found grease and oil everywhere. I put 4 ounces (It's very concentrated). In desperation, I put lestoil in carpet cleaner to see if I could clean the carpet and not have to replace it (IT CLEANED IT and DID A FANTASTIC JOB) on a light beige CARPET. The carpet is still there and that was back in the early 90's Its getting hard to find , We got it from grocery stores, hardware stores some paint stores. WE STILL USE IT FOR ALL KINDS OF CLEANING PROBLEMS .OH my wife even used to wash my clothes in it, as I worked in doing const. HOPE you can find some and try it, you will be amazed at results. If you locate any Lestoil LET ME KNOW, We need some now. Good Luck F.B.E.

Emland- I certainly hope you can get your red ink out of your dryer. I need to explain that LESTOIL is a very CONCENTRATED CLEANER (12 PARTS WATER TO 1 PART Lestoil for light stains), I think that is why it is so hard to find. You know when you find a good cleaner and it works real well and eliminates other cleaners that you would normally purchase it becomes scarce. LESTOIL is manufactured for the CLOROX COMPANY. I purchase LESTOIL BY THE CASE AND NOW THE COMPANY IS SOLD OUT. If you find any LET ME KNOW! GOOD LUCK! His better half. One of the best parts of using LESTOIL is it not harsh on the hands.

Emland- Hi Emland, My husband and I responded to your question about the red ink pen exploding in the dryer. I just wanted to know how you finally resolved your problem and if you located any LESTOIL? When I found most of my good uniforms with lipstick all over them I could have cried. I was desperate and immediately thought of the LESTOIL, What a blessing! I try to keep it on hand but it is getting harder and harder to find. I used it for just about every cleaning job, including the carpet cleaner. It's just like anything else when you find a good product, Poof it's gone. It's just like my favorite car The Buick Roadmaster, They stopped manufacturing it in 1996, but that was a GREAT car and my husband promised me that if they ever started producing it again I could purchase one as soon as it was available. So much for loose chatter, Have a great evening.

I love this stuff too and can't find it. Here is a web site for it however, you must but a lifetime supply of it or have an outlet for some of it. Good Luck Mrs FBE. Tell MR. FBE Hello

Esquirel - Doug ,I say thanks for your information, on (LESTOIL) I have tried several searches for it and found none. I do know that it is made by clorox. WE used to use it for just about anything, I Even carried it in my work truck, my wife would use it in the carpet cleaner every time she cleaned carpets, it did not hurt the carpets any at all. If you ever get any plastic cement on your hands, just pour a little in your hand ,then wipe off with a paper towel, hands are clean ( OH , do just like you would with your hands ,as if you had soap on them ,then wipe. If I find some, I will let you know, I have people asking us about it all the time, I've thought about if I find it to get enough to start selling it. IT HAS A MILLION USES> :::: Have a good day & GOD BLESS ::: OH HELLO DOUG ::: F.B.E.

    I couldn't find the lestoil.

I soaked a towel in goo gone and tumbled it for a few hours. What was going to come off did. The rest has enameled itself to the interior.

    Thanks for all the help!

Have you tried hair spray? I know it takes ball point pen ink out of clothes, so you might try it on the dryer. Rubbing alcohol is good also for solid, non porous surfaces. Good luck

I found Lestoil in WalMart, but it wasn't with the other household cleaners.. . It was down the aisle a bit with the buckets, mops and brooms!

Acetone will take it off easily. Nail polish remover will thus do the trick...
