Overhead Door garage door opener light just blinks?
 My 15 y/o Overhead Door (brand) garage door opener was working fine opening & closing until a few days ago. It has very low usage because I mostly park my car outside the garage door. Now when I press the remote control w/ new battery OR the hard wired wall switch, the light on the opener just blinks on & off about 5 to 6 times and shuts off?. garage door & opener doesn't budge an inch. I tried disconnecting from the safety disconnect chain pull and manually reconnecting but opener still just blinks light. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to trouble shoot before I call the service guys? I think something very minor is interfering with the operation of the garage opener. Any suggestions /tips would be very appreciated. Thanks

If your garage door has a sensor then most likely the sensor is blocked. With the unit being 15 years old dirt has probably built up on the laser. Clean the laser lens and the reflector. Hopefully that works

It sounds like the motor/drive may be seized. Try to get ahold of the mechanism and see if if move at all. Be sure power is off to the unit.

Thanks for your suggestion & to clarify, you are referring to the laser safety beam/light that runs across the door opening that prevents accidential closures if something is in the way? I'll chack again! I'm also wondering if there is an IR sensor in the garage opener unit itself that may need cleaning/dusting... where might it be located?
